John followed both of his children through various
sports including travel and/or school soccer, swimming,
baseball, softball, basketball, archery, and volleyball.
John’s son Jake began playing college baseball for
Dallas Baptist University in the Fall of 2024.
John’s daughter Brooke began her college career
at Longwood University in Farmville, VA in the Fall of 2024.
John spent 10 years as a professional baseball umpire
before transitioning to a 20+ year career in sales.
After spending several years as a travel ball parent
himself, John recognized the need for information
amongst travel ball parents and started

John spent 26 years umpiring professional and collegiate baseball.
- Finished #1 at the Brinkman Froemming Umpire School in 1994
- Spent 10 years as an umpire in professional baseball
- Served as a AAA Crew Chief for 2 years
- Umpired for 2 International League Championships
- Umpired for 8 NCAA Division I Regional Tournaments
- Umpired for 10 NCAA Division I Conference Tournaments
As a parent of two competitive athletes, John has grown to understand
the importance of Mental Performance. John has assisted his children
in learning more about mental performance as well as accessing mental performance resources throughout their careers.
Through his work as www.TheTravelBallDad.com and his work as the host of The Travel Ball Show on ESPN 680 Louisville, John has had conversations with and learned from a number of notable mental performance professionals.
